                                    NEWSLETTER

                                    ISSUE  10              DEC  2005

Well Christmas is here already as another year draws to an end. It has been a great year for the club and we
have some fantastic weekend rides planned for next year.

Thanks to everyone who helped out with the track marshalling at Outtrim. This not only earned $500 for the
club but also gave us the use of the track for a weekend, which everyone who attended enjoyed very much. Our
club supplied meat for the BBQ and drinks for this weekend, which was a great way for our club to give a little back
to its members. Thanks Matt and Scott for purchasing the food and drinks, Kellie, Lyn, Donna, and Julie for making
the salads. Thanks also to Troy for opening and closing the track each day and Simon and Matt for operating the
BBQ.

The web site has been going nowhere for a while now and although I said I would have a go at it I haven’t been
able to find the time. I am very sorry about this but there is good news ahead as Simon thinks his son would like to
do it. So hopefully early next year we will have some useful information and updated photos on the site.

As we take a break over the festive season it may be a good opportunity to think about track access and what
Peter Ellard had to say last month. Get on the net and see what the Bush Users Group (BUG) is all about. I will try to
gather some information and then we can make an informed decision on wether to become a corporate member.

I am still keen to organise some easier rides or perhaps rides that involve looking for old mining sites etc. Have
a think about this and if you are interested bring it up at future meetings or give me a call. Don’t get me wrong I still
love the challenging rides but I want to cater for all members.

We will organise our Christmas tea at the next meeting. It is a great time for the members and their partners to
catch up.

Woods Point ride.

This years Woods Point weekend ride was incident packed, that was for sure! Unfortunately Julie and Paul had
to pull out at the last minute due to family members being ill. Eighteen riders left Mark and Brett Ewings house near
Erica in perfect conditions just before 11 o’clock. We regrouped at the end of Deep creek 2 track. Barney found oil
leaking badly from his rear shocker and decided to go back and drive home. Further on One Speck track I had just
passed Scooter when I looked back and saw he had a minor get off. I rode back and we soon got going again, only
to be stopped by a flat front tyre on my bike. Phil (riding sweep) turned up to help me put the wheel back in. Off
again with Phil and myself playing catch up.

I was behind Brett when we came out onto Williamson Spur. The front of the Husaberg lifted skyward and Brett
came down heavily. His knee was badly injured and we had to call in Matt and Bill to pick him and the Berg up. While
we were waiting the boys noticed that I had another flat, this time the rear! At least we had time to fix it. With Brett
and the Berg in good hands we continued on to catch up with the others. Lew had some trouble with a loose spark
plug lead after a river crossing, but he was soon on the gas again. The riding through the Red Jacket area was
excellent for all of us except maybe for Russell who took a wrong turn! Most of us didn’t know about this until we got
to Woods Point. Joe was pulling off some fantastic jumps from erosion banks on Noble spur track, which I had a
front row seat. Julie White completed her first club ride with a couple of minor battle scars but all would agree that
she rode extremely well.

Half an hour after reaching the pub I found that Russell still hadn’t turned up. I was ready to go out looking for
him when we heard the DRZ cruising down the main road to the pub. The corner man system works well most of the
time. We then settled in for great night at the pub.

After Dons brilliant cooked breakfast it was time to hit the trails again. Goldie was riding Brett’s Berg and Julie
decided to go in the support vehicle. Mick, Mark and Enzo (who had ridden from Noojee and stayed at the pub with
us) led the way. Mark lost the back end of his bike, falling heavily on the rocks not ten minutes into the ride. He
thought he had snapped his hamstring, so Mick went back to get help from our support crew. We continued on to
Matlock lookout with a magnificent 360-degree view. This was followed by some awesome tracks in the catchment
area.

Joe was keeping me honest pace wise, when a creek crossing came up. It was fairly deep, but I managed to
make it across and headed up the hill. Joe wasn’t behind me and I found later he had drowned his bike. We met the
support team at Aberfeldy and had lunch at Scooters place.
Half of us decided to go to Mark and Brett’s place via the road while I took the rest via some more tracks. Foxy
copped at flat and Scooter gave his bike a drink. Troy out did them all by hitting a hidden fallen branch and coming
off his KTM in spectacular fashion at the end of the last track. I thought we were going to have to call on our support
crew again, but luckily he was ok.

What a weekend!! I hope Mark and Brett have speedy recoveries. Thanks to everyone who made this a great
weekend. Thanks to Matt and Bill who worked so hard and brilliantly driving the support vehicle. I hope you all
enjoyed this weekend as much as I did.

I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year. I know there will be some
fantastic rides coming up next year.

                                                                  Catch ya later, Dallas.
